Data collecting is an essential part of running a nonprofit. Most nonprofits use data to prove to potential donors that their approach is working. But data has so much more to offer you than that. When you’re looking at the right metrics, you aren’t just looking to prove your impact. The best data is data you can use to innovate your approach, grow your reach, and make your organization as impactful as it can be.

This course will walk you through the crucial process of collecting and analyzing data, broken down into simple, straightforward steps. We’ll help you pinpoint the right metrics for your organization and go over different methods you can use to measure them. We’ll help you focus on the goals that matter most to your organization and the data strategies you’ll need to get there. We’ll teach you how to make data a part of your day-to-day, right now and well beyond the workshop. And throughout it all, we will be there for you as you apply these methods to the work you do, with in-depth 1-on-1 online training, as well as check-in calls to follow your progress and respond to any questions and challenges that come up along the way. Throughout the workshop, you will not only be learning the fundamentals of data collection and analysis, but you’ll be getting expert feedback from our team on how to adapt these methods to the unique needs of your organization.

Orientation Get to know your instructors as we get to know more about you and your organization. We'll walk you through the overall course and get you started on the first week’s worksheets and exercises.
Week 1 - Basic metrics We'll walk through the different types of metrics you can track, the best practices for crafting effective metrics, and how to tailor these tools your organization.
Week 2 - Narrowing your focus We'll go over strategies for determining what matters in the short term for your organization and what a series of your most important metrics looks like over time.
Week 3 - Setting your goals and tracking your success We’ll go over strategies to map your organization’s goals to specific metrics, so you can track progress and set-backs over time and determine when to pivot or reassess your approach.
Week 4 - Using your metrics and data effectively In our final section, we’ll help you set up a data dashboard you can implement right now and utilize across platforms, and put long-term plans in place so that your data guides in the best directions far into the future.
