Understand your space

A competitive analysis is a process of taking a look at how your nonprofit stacks up to other organizations in your space — whether it’s your cause-space or your local geographic-space. It’s crucial to have an understanding of which organizations are complimenting your work and which organizations you may be competing with for resources — e.g. funding, your audience, your network. By taking the time to research and understand where your organization fits in, you’ll not only be better prepared to compete where necessary, you’ll be able to discover new opportunities for impactful partnerships. Lastly, it’ll lead to a greater understanding of your own organization’s unique advantages and strengths.

In fact, we believe that nonprofits should do a check-in on their competitive analysis every year, and in this workshop we’ll teach you the tools you need to do that process on your own, well after the workshop is over. We’ll walk you through a step by step guide of how to run a competitive analysis, how to identify key areas to research and compare, how to reflect on that research as it relates to your organization and, most importantly, how to craft your competitive advantage statement to help you stand out.

The workshop includes a 4-part, step-by-step process for tackling your organization’s competitive analysis, as well as 4 in-depth check-in calls with our team. Throughout the process, our instructors will be on hand to make sure you’re understanding the steps, to answer any questions or challenges that may arise, and to offer expert feedback on your work throughout.

Week 3 - Review and refine We'll go over your competitive advantage statements and provide feedback, then go over how to strengthen them and how to begin incorporating them—into grant applications, across your communications, etc.

The Perfect combination

If you are planning to apply for funding through grants, we recommend combining this workshop with Grant Writing, and are offering a discount when you purchase both workshops together.

Why take both?

After completing a competitive analysis, you’ll be able to clearly articulate why your organization stands out. This will be incredibly useful in grant writing as you express why funders should partner with you. Many grant applications ask specifically how you compare to others in your cause space, and after completing your competitive analysis, you’ll have those questions already researched, answered, and ready to go.
